Hugh McKenzie is Lake Temagami's Resident Artist
Born March 31, 1943 in Temagami Ontario Canada, Hugh grew up on his father's trapline. Land, water, animals and bird became his inspiration in early childhood.
Boyhood friend and artist, Benjamin Chee Chee persuaded Hugh to accompany him to Ottawa to work as an artist. THe soon perfected a unique stencil sjponge style integrating ancestral and contemporary Ojibway symbols
After Benjamin's death in 1976, Hugh continued perfecting this distinctive style to include realistic animals and birds
